What types of electrical measuring instruments does PSE Priggen offer?
In this category you will find digital multimeters, clamp meters, voltage testers, power and resistance meters, insulation testers, installation testers, service instruments, cable tracers, cable testers and suitable accessories. This covers typical tasks in installation, service, maintenance and test benches.
What is the difference between multimeters, clamp meters and voltage testers?
A multimeter combines several measurements in one instrument (e.g. voltage, current, resistance, sometimes frequency or temperature). Clamp meters measure current without breaking the circuit by clamping around the conductor – ideal for maintenance and troubleshooting. Two-pole voltage testers are designed for fast and safe voltage and continuity tests on installations.
Which electrical measuring instrument is best for my application?
This depends on your task and environment: For general electrical work, a robust true-RMS multimeter is often the best starting point. For higher currents or live systems, clamp meters are suitable. Installation testers and insulation testers are used for compliance testing of electrical installations, while power meters and power analyzers are ideal for energy optimisation and power quality analysis. If you describe your measurement task, we will recommend suitable instruments
What do measurement categories such as CAT II, CAT III or CAT IV mean?
The measurement category (e.g. CAT II, CAT III, CAT IV) indicates for which parts of the electrical installation a tester may safely be used. CAT III instruments are intended, for example, for distribution boards and fixed installations, while CAT IV instruments are suitable for measurements at the service entrance or source of the installation. Always ensure that the category and rated voltage match your application and use only instruments with appropriate safety approvals.
Are your instruments suitable for three-phase and 3-phase systems?
Many clamp meters, multimeters, power meters and power analyzers can be used in three-phase systems to measure currents, voltages, active and reactive power and power factor. For more detailed network analysis, specialised 3-phase instruments and power analyzers are available. The product descriptions list the supported measurement functions and voltage ranges.
Can electrical measuring instruments be connected to PCs, data loggers or control systems?
Selected instruments provide interfaces such as USB, RS-485/Modbus or other digital outputs. This allows you to log, document and integrate measurement data into higher-level systems. The technical data specify which interfaces each instrument supports; if required, we will help you choose a suitable combination of instrument, data logger and software.
Do you offer electrical instruments with calibration or test certificates?
Yes, calibration and test certificates are available for many instruments, especially for multimeters, insulation testers, power meters and power analyzers. Depending on the application, factory test reports or standard-compliant calibrations may be appropriate. Let us know which quantities and ranges you need to be certified and we will check the available options.
Can you help me select and configure a suitable set of test instruments?
Yes, absolutely. If you tell us about your typical tasks (e.g. installation, panel building, service, test bench work), voltage ranges, standards/requirements and your budget, we will put together a suitable set – for example consisting of a multimeter, clamp meter, voltage tester, insulation tester and accessories. This way you get a solution that fits technically and pays off in daily use.

Electrical test instruments for installation and service
Electrical test instruments measure voltage, current, resistance, power and insulation resistance. They are essential tools for electricians, service technicians and test labs. This category covers digital multimeters, current clamps, voltage testers, installation testers, insulation testers and further electrical test equipment.
Multimeters, current clamps and voltage testers
Digital multimeters combine several measuring functions in one instrument and TRUE-RMS meters provide reliable readings even on distorted waveforms. Current clamps measure currents without disconnecting the conductor and are ideal for maintenance and troubleshooting. Two-pole voltage testers and continuity testers form the basic kit of every electrician.
Installation testers and insulation testers
Installation testers check electrical installations in accordance with relevant standards by measuring loop impedance, RCD tripping times and insulation resistance. High-voltage insulation testers are used on motors, cables, transformers and switchgear to assess their condition.
Power meters and power quality analyzers
Power meters and analyzers capture active and reactive power, power factor and harmonics. They support energy optimization, power quality analysis and troubleshooting in complex drive systems.
Selection criteria
Key factors include measurement categories (CAT), ranges, accuracy, protection class, safety standards and ease of use. Rugged housings, shock resistance and readable displays are essential in professional environments.
Benefits of professional electrical test instruments
Professional electrical test instruments provide a high level of safety and reliable readings under demanding conditions. Accessories and calibration options enable standard-compliant and fully documented measurements.
