What types of radiation measuring instruments does PSE Priggen offer?
Our portfolio includes instruments for electric alternating fields, magnetic alternating fields, high-frequency (RF) radiation, electrostatics, static (DC) magnetic fields, as well as radioactivity and radon. This covers EMF detectors, field strength meters, broadband RF meters, electrostatic meters, gaussmeters, Geiger counters and radon monitors.

Electric and magnetic alternating fields occur for example around power lines, transformers or devices operating at mains frequency (50/60 Hz up to a few kHz). RF radiation covers radio, mobile communications, WLAN, DECT, radar and similar signals in the MHz–GHz range. Radioactivity (ionising radiation) originates from radioactive materials or X-ray sources and is measured with dedicated radiation or radon instruments. Each type of field or radiation requires specific sensors and measuring ranges. ndt.net+3

Our radiation meters are used in industrial EMC testing, laboratories, occupational safety, power supply and distribution, on-site service and building biology / EMF assessments. Typical tasks include assessing EMF exposure at workplaces, locating interference sources, checking shielding efficiency, monitoring radioactivity and carrying out long-term radon measurements in buildings.

Key criteria include the type of field or radiation (E-field, H-field, RF, DC magnetic field, radioactivity, radon), frequency range, measurement range and sensitivity, whether isotropic 3D measurement is required, as well as display type, alarm functions and any data logging or PC interface. For radioactivity you should also check which radiation types (alpha, beta, gamma, X-rays) can be detected and which units are used (e.g. µSv/h, cps).

Yes, many instruments – for example combined EMF meters for electric and magnetic fields plus RF radiation – are used both in technical EMC work and building biology / EMF assessments. When evaluating guideline or reference values, check that the measurement ranges, frequency coverage and resolution match the recommendations or standards you are working with. Legal requirements, however, must always be verified against the regulations applicable in your country. Computer Automation+3

Yes, we supply compact, battery-powered handheld instruments for quick on-site measurements as well as devices with data logging to record field or radiation levels over longer periods. For radioactivity and radon there are portable units as well as long-term monitors to capture temporal variations and averages and to provide proper documentation.

Yes, regular calibration is recommended for reliable and comparable results, especially when instruments are used in EMC testing, occupational safety or official monitoring programmes. Calibration intervals depend on the type of instrument, how frequently it is used and your internal quality requirements. Many devices can be supplied with a factory calibration or recalibrated later; details are given in the technical data sheets and on request.

Yes, we are happy to advise you. If you tell us about your measurement task, the type of fields or radiation, the required frequency or energy range, the environment (laboratory, industrial plant, office, residential building) and the desired documentation features (e.g. data logging, PC software), we will recommend suitable instruments or instrument sets. If needed, we can also help you design a complete measurement concept with several measuring points.

    Our Brands:

Radiation measuring instruments for EMC and environmental fields

Radiation measuring instruments capture electric and magnetic fields, high-frequency radiation and ionizing radiation. They are used in EMC testing, building biology, occupational safety and research. This category includes instruments for low-frequency fields, RF field meters, electrostatic meters, DC magnetic field meters as well as radiation and Radon monitors.

Measurement of low-frequency electric and magnetic fields

LF field meters measure electric and magnetic fields from power lines, transformers, motors and electrical installations. They support EMC assessments, troubleshooting and building-biology surveys.

RF field meters and electromagnetic exposure

RF broadband meters and spectrum analyzers detect fields from mobile communication, WLAN, DECT, radar and other radio services. They are used in EMC pre-compliance testing, site surveys and building-biology measurements.

    Radioactivity and Radon measurement

Geiger counters and dose rate meters monitor ionizing radiation in laboratories, industry and environmental monitoring. Radon monitors track indoor Radon concentration and support mitigation strategies.

    Selection criteria

Important parameters are frequency range, dynamic range, measurement uncertainty, detector type, resolution and compliance with relevant standards. Building-biology applications often require broadband instruments with intuitive indications, while EMC labs rely on detailed spectral analysis.

    Benefits of professional radiation measurement

Professional instruments provide calibrated ranges, high repeatability and user-friendly operation, enabling sound assessment of electromagnetic and ionizing radiation exposure.
