The Power Management section covers components for generation, supply, distribution and monitoring of electrical power:
solar power generation, mains and laboratory power supplies, professional power distribution units (PDUs and power racks/strips), as well as monitoring solutions for current, voltage and power.

A Power Distribution Unit (PDU) distributes electrical power from one or a few sources to many loads – for example in data centres, server rooms, event technology or industrial plants. Modern PDUs offer load balancing, overload protection, remote switching, current and power monitoring and neat, standards-compliant rack wiring. This improves safety, uptime and transparency of energy usage.

PDUs are used wherever many loads must be supplied reliably, e.g. in data centres, server rooms, telecom facilities, industrial plants, event technology and mobile power distribution. In stage and event applications, robust rack and floor distributors are used, such as 19" power racks with CEE input, multiple Schuko outlets, RCD/MCB protection and earthing connection.

Simple power strips are designed for standard sockets, limited currents and usually without advanced protection or monitoring. Professional PDUs and power distributors offer:

    • design for higher currents (e.g. 16 A/32 A CEE)

    • integrated RCDs and circuit breakers

    • often phase and voltage monitoring

    • rugged housings for continuous industrial or touring use

    • in some cases remote switching and metering.
This makes them far better suited for safety-critical, industrial and event applications.

    Key factors include:

    • Input: CEE16/CEE32, number of phases, mains voltage

    • Outputs: number and type (e.g. Schuko, PowerCON, PowerLock)

    • Maximum current and power

    • integrated protection (RCDs, MCBs, surge protection)

    • mounting type (19" rack, floor box, wall-mount)

    • required monitoring and remote functions (voltage, current, energy, remote switching).
If you describe your setup and infrastructure, we’ll recommend suitable units.

Yes. In addition to distribution units, the Power Management range includes switch-mode and programmable laboratory power supplies with adjustable voltage and current, some featuring PC interfaces, protection functions and high efficiency. They are ideal for supplying electronics, DUTs and test setups in labs and production environments.

Many modern Power Management solutions provide monitoring functions for current, voltage, power and energy consumption – either integrated into PDUs or via separate monitoring modules. Using PC software and network/fieldbus interfaces, you can visualise readings, supervise thresholds and switch outputs remotely. This improves utilisation, energy efficiency and system availability.

Yes, we are happy to assist. If you tell us about your application, power requirement, mains structure (e.g. 3-phase, CEE16/32), required outlet types, monitoring and protection requirements and any existing racks or distribution boards, we will recommend suitable PDUs, power distributors, power supplies and monitoring components – and, if desired, a fully coordinated system concept.

Why Do You Need Power Management and a Power Distribution Unit (PDU)?

A PDU (Power Distribution Unit) offers a range of benefits in various applications, particularly in data centers, server rooms, and other environments where reliable power supply and distribution are crucial. Here are some of the main advantages of PDUs:

    • Power Distribution: The primary function of a PDU is to distribute power from a single source to multiple devices. This enables efficient use of power sources and simplifies the management of multiple devices.
    • Load Balancing: PDUs can distribute the load across multiple circuits to prevent overload and ensure even power distribution. This helps avoid power failures and other issues caused by overloaded circuits.
    • Remote Management: Some PDUs offer remote management features, meaning they can be monitored and controlled from a distance. This allows administrators to track power consumption, turn devices on and off, and receive notifications about issues without having to be physically present.
    • Redundancy and Failover Protection: By using redundant PDUs and features such as automatic switching, systems can be configured for greater failover protection. If one power source fails, a redundant PDU can automatically switch the load to another source to ensure continuous operation.
    • Energy Management and Monitoring: Modern PDUs often include power monitoring features, such as measuring current, voltage, power factor, and energy consumption. This enables administrators to optimize energy usage, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
    • Fire Protection and Safety: PDUs are often equipped with features that enhance fire safety, such as overcurrent protection and ground fault protection. They also help minimize the risk of electrical shocks and other safety-related issues.

Overall, PDUs provide a fundamental infrastructure component for reliable power supply and distribution in data centers and other critical environments. They improve uptime, increase efficiency, and lower total operating costs while preventing costly damage to technical equipment.

Power Management: Where Are Power Distribution Units (PDUs) Used?

PDUs (Power Distribution Units) are used in a variety of environments where reliable power supply and distribution are essential. Some of the primary environments where PDUs are utilized include:

    • Data Centers: Data centers are the most common environment for PDUs. They are used to supply power to servers, networking devices, storage systems, and other IT equipment. PDUs in data centers are often designed specifically for rack-mounted installations.
    • Server Rooms: Similar to data centers, PDUs are used in server rooms to provide efficient power distribution for servers and network devices. They simplify load management and distribution.
    • Telecommunications Centers: In telecommunications centers and infrastructure, PDUs are used to safely and efficiently distribute power.
